Vietnamese-German Development Cooperation

Viet Nam and Germany have built a strong and long-lasting development partnership. Today, Viet Nam is one of the most important partner countries for German Development Cooperation in Asia.

With its dynamic economic development and population growth, Viet Nam and the lives of the Vietnamese people change rapidly. German Development Cooperation supports the Government of Viet Nam and the Vietnamese people to foster sustainable and inclusive growth, protect natural resources and tackle the challenges of globalization.

Therefore, the Government of Viet Nam and the Government of Germany agreed to co-operate in the following three priority areas:

Established on 1 January 2011, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ)  brings together under one roof the long-standing expertise of the Deutscher Entwicklungsdienst (DED) gGmbH (German development service), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH (German technical cooperation) and InWEnt – Capacity Building International, Germany.

Facts

  • The German Government has committed 300 million Euro to Viet Nam during the 2010 Vietnamese-German Government negotiations for 2011/2012.
  • The German Embassy to Viet Nam in Hanoi is the focal point for German Development Cooperation within Viet Nam. Read more
  • The instruments of bilateral cooperation between the two countries include loans for investments as well as technical cooperation through providing long-term and short-term expertise and training for Vietnamese leaders and sector specialists. Read more
  • Germany also supports the work of church organizations, political foundations and other civil society organizations active in Viet Nam and contributes to the European Union's and international organizations' (World Bank, Asian Development Bank, United Nations and others) support programs for Viet Nam.
